Fungal Genomics: Forensic Evidence of Sexual Activity
The genome sequence of the 'asexual' human pathogenic fungus Aspergillus fumigatus suggests it has the capability to undergo mating and meiosis. That this organism engages in clandestine sexual activity is also suggested by observations of two equally distributed complementary mating types in nature, the expression of mating type genes and evidence of recent genome recombination events.
متن کاملTransitioning from Forensic Genetics to Forensic Genomics
Due to its support of law enforcement, forensics is a conservative field; nevertheless, driven by scientific and technological progress, forensic genetics is slowly transitioning into forensic genomics. With this Special Issue of Genes we acknowledge and appreciate this rather recent development by not only introducing the field of forensics to the wider community of geneticists, but we do so b...
متن کاملForensic evidence findings in prepubertal victims of sexual assault.
OBJECTIVE The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends forensic evidence collection when sexual abuse has occurred within 72 hours, or when there is bleeding or acute injury. It is not known whether these recommendations are appropriate for prepubertal children, because few data exist regarding the utility of forensic evidence collection in cases of child sexual assault. This study describes t...
متن کاملEditorial Current Fungal Genomics
Fungi are important to biotechnology including medicine, agriculture and industry fields. Over 100 fungi genome have been sequenced or are being sequenced between 2013/2015 including human and plant pathogens as well as fungi that serve as basic models for molecular and cellular biology. The fungal community working in genomic area is increasing dramatically recently. The obtained data is enabl...
